Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Ceramics! I’m excited about the opportunity to get to work with you and creating this new art course, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive semester. I am beyond thrilled to have artists back in the studio! Here is a glance at some of my policies and philosophies when it comes to teaching art.
This year we will be learning a lot about techniques and properties of clay and the creation of ceramic artworks. Students will gain technical art skills as well as gain a cultural knowledge of the arts in the clay medium. My goal for this class is to embrace individuality and share an excitement for creativity.
Students are asked to bring the following supplies to class: sketchbook and pencils. Please check on the back of this sheet for the full list of supplies needed, as well as a supply fee. All of the art classes at ERA have a supply fee to cover the cost of supplies students will use each semester. Pottery is a very expensive art form, we need clay, glazes, tools for the entire class.
Students will have weekly projects and many other tasks. Each project will have a due date, any work that was not completed during studio time will have to be completed for homework to receive full credit.
This class will be on a 10 point grading scale. Grades will be broken down by Projects= 50%, Planning and Process= 30% and Website Updates=20%.
This semester we will continue using Canvas. If you missed a class or need to turn in work for final grades, you will need to be familiar with this platform. I am here to help along the way but remember, communication is key!
The Art Department will host an art show at the end of the semester. This semester the art show will be Thursday, December 9th at 6:00, MARK YOUR CALENDARS. Please be sure your artworks are preserved and prepared for a showcase.
If you have any questions or concerns you can contact me at [email protected].
Once again, welcome to Ceramics. I am so excited for this semester and all that will be learned and created! For more information please check out the ERA visual arts page http://eravisualarts.weebly.com/.
Sincerely,
Meagan Kimbrough
